Bonus Activity
Thru-hiking, or through-hiking, is the act of hiking an established long-distance trail end-to-end continuously. This usually refers to trails like the Continental Divide Trail, The Pacific Crest Trail, or the Appalachian Trail, to name a few.
One of the cool things that through-hikers do, is get a trail name. It is often given to them by other hikers, but sometimes people pick your own. These are nicknames that can be because of your personality, what you wear, what food you eat, a funny story...
My sister-in-law is a through-hiker and her trail name is Quill because of a story about a porcupine. My sister's trail name is Ember, given to her by her students when she worked in a wilderness outdoor program. Nimblewood Will is a well-known author and AT hiker, Billy Goat is a familiar hiker from the PCT, and Not Oatmeal is the youngest member of the 32 Feet Up family hiking the AT this year.
My trail name would be Skippy. If you were given a trail name, what would it be? Why did you choose this name? Then write it nice and big in your workbook.
